To maintain or achieve optimum oral health, you need regular visits to the dentist. For those with a dental phobia or fear of the dentist, this can be difficult. If you have severe dental anxiety or fear that is keeping you from getting the oral care you need, contact our team at First Smile Family Dental. We welcome patients with dental phobia or anxiety to our dental center in Federal Way, WA.
If you are afraid of the dentist, you are not alone. Many people have varying degrees of dental anxiety, and some have a true dental phobia. Just the thought of visiting a dentist can make some people’s heart race and bring on anxiety symptoms. For some, this is due to poor experiences with dental care in the past, while others cannot explain their fear. Regardless of why you have dental anxiety, there are ways to overcome this obstacle so that you can still enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile.
Dental Anxiety
For our patients with dental phobia and dental anxiety, we make every visit as stress-free as possible. We have extended hours and comfort amenities at our office, which can relieve some of the stress associated with dental care. Our treatment rooms are cozy with blankets and pillows available, plus you can watch TV with headphones during your visit to keep your mind occupied.
For patients with severe dental anxiety or phobia, we recommend sedation dentistry as a solution. We offer both nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation that can relax patients and make their dental visits anxiety-free. Nitrous oxide is a milder form of sedation without lasting side effects after the visit, great for patients who need to drive. Oral conscious sedation is for patients who want relaxation before and during their visits, but an adult will need to be available to bring the patient to and from their appointment.
If you suffer from dental phobia or anxiety, do not let it impact the health of your smile. Contact us at First Smile Family Dental – we welcome patients with dental anxiety from Fife, Auburn, Des Moines, Kent, and the other communities near Federal Way.
